Difficulties We Work With

What is Stress?

Most people will feel stressed from time to time, and may describe feeling tense, worried, or overloaded with responsibilities.

If your stress is present for a long period of time, or continues to build up, this can have a negative impact on your physical and mental health. If one continues to feel stressed and their symptoms do not subside, they may feel overwhelmed and unable to cope.

When stress negatively impacts your mental health and wellbeing, you may notice:

  • Feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope
  • Not being able to stop or control your worrying
  • Feeling on edge
  • Changes in your sleep patterns and quality
  • Feeling fatigued or exhausted
  • Changes in your appetite
  • Physical symptoms such as headaches, gastrointestinal issues, or muscle tension
  • Not being able to concentrate
  • Changes in your mood, feeling angry or irritable
  • Withdrawing from your friends or family
  • Relying on alcohol or other substances to cope
  • Thinking of self-harm or suicide
Seeking help to manage your stress will ensure a healthier work/life balance is created, as well as learning techniques to manage stress.
