What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a common mental health difficulty in Australia, with 1 in 4 people experiencing anxiety at some stage in their life. Symptoms of anxiety can occur at any point in life such as childhood, adolescence or adulthood.

Anxiety is likely to pop up from time to time and most people will experience occasional anxiety. When this anxiety doesn’t go away, happens without a particular reason, or makes it difficult to cope with daily life, it may indicate more severe anxiety symptoms.

Anxiety can often be experienced as intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. These feelings of anxiety can interfere with daily activities, be difficult to control, can last a long period of time, and are out of proportion to the actual danger.
