Behavioural Difficulties

Difficulties We Work With

What are Behavioural Difficulties ?

There will always be times when children misbehave or engage in inappropriate behaviour from time to time. And young children experience a range of emotions and express themselves in many different ways. However, some children may have extremely difficult and challenging behaviours which are ongoing, difficult to manage, and appear outside the norm for their age.

Some behaviours that families commonly find challenging include:

  • Defiance (e.g. refusing to follow your requests)
  • Fussiness (e.g. refusal to eat certain foods or wear certain clothes)
  • Hurting other people (e.g. biting, kicking)
  • Excessive anger when the child doesn’t get their own way
  • Tantrums

You may have already tried a range of strategies to manage these challenging behaviours, however the difficulties may continue too persistent. Some warning signs which indicate your family may benefit from assistance include:

  • Your discipline strategies aren’t working
  • Your child’s behaviour interferes with school
  • Your child’s behaviour impacts their social life
  • Your child’s behaviour is not developmentally appropriate
