About Dean

Dean is a clinical psychologist, registered with AHPRA. He has completed 11-Years of tertiary study in psychology and neuroscience. He completed his Master of Clinical Psychology at the University of Sydney and his PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Melbourne. He spends part of his time seeing clients at Mindright and part of his time running clinical trials at the University of Sydney.

Dean has experience working across the lifespan with adults, adolescents, children and families. Prior to working in private practice, Dean worked for several years in community mental health, with adults who attempted suicide and with young people in the foster system, who display challenging behaviours in response to early childhood trauma.

Dean also has experience in the following areas: Adolescent mental health (anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, social conflict, suicide, self-harm, substance use and emotion dysregulation); Child and family mental health (anxiety, tantrums, parenting challenges, autism, ADHD); Adult mental health (anxiety, depression, trauma or overwhelming stress, substance abuse, problematic gambling, relationship difficulties and emotion dysregulation).

Dean is trained in conducting autism assessments in people of all ages, using the ADOS-2 and ADI-R.

Dean prides himself of creating a warm, relaxed, collaborative and non-judgemental therapy space, so that you may feel comfortable to disclose whatever is on your mind. Dean uses attachment theory, systemic and structural family theory, learning theory and the neuroscience of stress and trauma to inform his therapy.

Dean believes in a multidisciplinary approach to care, and actively works with GPs, psychiatrists, paediatricians, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and schools.

Dean practices a variety of therapeutic modalities adapted to the needs of the client: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for children, youth, and adults; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Schema Therapy; Systemic Family Therapy; Attachment Based Family Therapy; Interpersonal Psychotherapy; Motivational Interviewing; Mindfulness; and Narrative Therapy.

Dean works from the office at Bondi Junction (or via telehealth) on Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday afternoon. He has a few before/after work or school sessions available.
